"This body of work focuses on the concept of life from death and growth from decomposition. I wanted to have plants seemingly growing out from these animals, thriving off their loss of life and bodies. The moss foxes were my first projects encompassing this idea and they eventually evolved into my terrarium taxidermy pieces. The term 'cannulated' references cannulated cows, who have surgical incisions cut into their sides that extend into their bellies. The bizarre aesthetic of that image inspired me to create my terrariums in a similar manner."—K.I.
